Some 23 persons onboard a Yutong Bus with registration number AW 400-19 have been arrested by immigration officers at Nakpanduri in the North East Region for entering the country illegally.
Persons picked up consist 15 Togolese nationals and 8 Burkinabes.
They were picked up by a joint security team as part of efforts to enforce government’s border closure directive amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
North East Regional Commander Chief Sup. William Andoh told journalists the arrest was made upon intelligence received that some foreigners were entering Ghana through unapproved routes.
According bro him, the 23 persons when questioned said they were farmer workers traveling to Kumasi in the Ashanti Region to seek greener pastures.
He also revealed they have been turned back to their respective country and cautioned not to return illegally.
