A total of eighteen (18) people have been confirmed dead by the Savannah Regional Police Commander following a ghastly accident at Buipe in the Central Gonja District.
The unfortunate incident occurred in the earlier hours of Wednesday, 3rd February, 2021 at Sarekyekura near Fulfulso on the Tamale-Buipe highway.
It occurred when two buses with registration numbers GT 3345 – 16 and AC 1699 – 20 with 45 aboard each, travelling from Kumasi in the Ashanti Region to Zabila in the Upper East Region and from Garu to Kumasi collided head-on leaving both busses badly damaged.
According to information gathered by TamaleOnline News, sixteen (16) of the deceased (12 male, 3 femal and a girl) died on the spot whiles two others died at the Holistic Medicare Hospital in Buipe.
Several others who have sustained various degrees of injury and in critical conditions are currently on admission at the Buipe Polycyclic and Holistic Medicare Hospital.
However, bodies of the deceased have been conveyed to the Tamale Teaching Hospital for identification and autopsy.
The cause of the accident is not readily know a drivers of the vehicles cannot be reached.
Meanwhile, Public Relations Officer for the Police in the Savannah Region, Mr Owusu-Agyekum in an interview with the press said efforts are being made to ascertain the actual cause of the accident.
