Businessman and Chief Executive of Northern Television (NTV), Prince Siita Sofo has sparked a thought-provoking debate on social media over the appointment of Kings as Chancellors of tertiary institutions in the country.

Prince Siita is seeking answers to why the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is appointed Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), while same is not done for the Overload of Dagbon, Wa Naa and Bolga Naaba respectively for the UDS Campuses.

In a Facebook post published awhile ago, Mr Siita Safo quizzed “Or is it because our chief are not instrumental in the development of our area? “

Or its because our chiefs are not instrumental to the development in our area?

    With all due respect, that question doesn’t make any sense at all. It may have been a legit question if we had a Yaa Naa. Unfortunately we don’t have one. A regent or acting Yaa Naa is not and cannot be a Yaa Naa. An association of regents isn’t one for enskinned/enstooled chiefs or quen mothers.
    Even if we had a Yaa Naa it doesn’t necessarily mean that he should be a Chancellor of UDS because Asantehene is the Chancellor of KNUST. That’s an infantile logic to say the least.

    no offense but the question is, do they have curriculum that qualifies them for the chancellor role?
