The Overlord of Dagbon, Ya-Na Abukari Mahama II has endorsed the Ghana Youth Guide’s 3rd edition of High School Leadership Conference to be held in the Yendi Municipality in November 2019.
The King made the endorsement when the Ghana Youth Guide team and it main partner organization paid a courtesy call on the Overlord of Dagbon at the Gbewaa Palacealace in Yendi.
The visit among other things was to seek the permission and blessings of the Overlord of the Kingdom to hold the High School Leadership Conference in the Yendi Municipality and to also canvas his support.
The delegation was led by Mrs. Hajia Halima Sagito Sa-eed who is the Executive Director of Savanna Women Integrated Development Agency, and in attendance was the Project Officer of Ghana Youth Guide in the person of Mr. Dawuni Peter Augustine.
The theme for the 3rd edition of GYG High School Leadership Conference is; “Naa Gbewaa 2019 Damba Festival: Empowering Our Youth for Peace and Development”.
The Overlord of Dagbon expressed his gratitude to the leadership of Ghana Youth Guide and the Savanna Women Integrated Development Agency and Black Entertainment Records Label – Choggu Boys for chosen Yendi as the best district to hold the leadership conference, and added that the conference was timely as Dagbon been re-united and celebrating this year’s Damba Festival in a grand style.
The Ya-Naa also called on young people to adopt the Ghana Youth Guide strategy of engaging young people in their own little way for that, he believes will contribute to National Development especially in Dagbon.
The team first call on the Municipal Chief Executive – Alhaji Ahmed Abukari Yussif who told the leadership that, they as an assembly has the core mandate when it comes to the development of Yendi.
He added that the program will help in the assembly’s efforts being made to develop the municipality. He also extended his profound gratitude to the first lady of the region for her efforts made to empower young people in the region and the country at large.
He went further to commend the leadership of the Ghana Youth Guide for organizing the High School Leadership Conference since 2017 in the northern region.
It would be recalled that the GYG Administrative Secretary – Farouk Kibtia outlined their plans of holding the 3rd edition of the High School Leadership Conference in the Yendi Municipality. She added that the Ghana Youth Guide intends to cover all the districts in the northern region specifically when it comes to their programs.
The GYG over the last two years successfully stage the High School Leadership Conference of which the first edition was held in Tamale at Tamale Senior High School Assembly Hall on the 11th November, 2017 which draw closer about eight hundred students from Tamale Metro, Savelgugu Municipality, Tolon District and Sagnerigu Municipality.
The first edition of the High School leadership conference was with the theme; Inspiring Students to Develop the Attitude of Creativity and Innovation.
The second edition of the High School Leadership Conference was also held in tamale at Ghana Senior High School Assembly Hall on the 17th November, 2018 which also brought about one thousand five students from Tamale, Tolon, Kumbungu and the Sagnerigu Municipality, which was also with theme; Youth Governance, An All Responsibility.
The organization this year on the 28th of September, 2019 held the first ever girls conference to be held in Northern Ghana which also draw over one thousand girls from eight second cycle institutions in the region with the theme; Harnessing the Girls Power for Social Responsibilities and Justice.
Over the last four years GYG has organized a lot of youth intervention programs especially for young girls between the ages of 12 to 25. Some of the programs included; Talent Hunt Competition 2018 among Junior High School Students, Menstrual Hygiene Training for 50 camfed Girls at Ghana Senior High School in 2018, International Menstrual Hygiene Day Celebration 2019 in the Tolon District for 300 young girls from upper primary 5 to 6, JHS 1 to 3 and SHS 1 to 3.
The third edition of the GYG high school leadership conference is set to draw over one thousand five hundred students in the Yendi Municipality from Yendi senior high school, Dagbon state, Al-maktoum Islamic Senior High school, and the Yendi community health training school.
The program is set to be part of the activities to mark this year’s Damba Festival in the Gbe-Waa Palace which will receive a high Delegation including His Excellency the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo.
The conference will also empower, equip, and prepare students by addressing some of the socio-psychological problems and delinquency that arise among them by creating opportunities for their involvement in decision making process, and for them to take advantage of leadership roles in their various institutions/communities.
Special Guest of Honor is the 1st lady of the Region – Hajia Halima Sagito Sa-eed who is the Executive Director of Savanna Women Integrated Development Agency. Guest Speakers are; Nana Yaw Osei Darkwa – Founding President of Youth Icons Ghana, and Mr.Yahaya Amin – Executive Director – Samakose Enterprising Development.
Ghana Youth Guide, (gyg) is a Non-Political, Independent, Not-For-Profit Organization run by young people.
Their members are interested in world issues, empowering young people in the areas of good governance and leadership management, education/training, campaigns and advocacy as well as community development.
