Three persons have been picked up by Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service for allegedly lacing alcoholic drinks with substance believed to be marijuana (weed).
The incident happened at the Monte Carlo pub in the Tema Metropolis of the Greater Accra region on Saturday, 28th November, 2020.
The suspects are, Jessica Mensah (Bar Operator aged 30), Joe Evans (an arrand boy aged 14) and Charity Yeboah (bar attendant aged 30).
According to a statement by the Ghana Police Service sighted by tamaleonline.net, “A total of 668 bottles of drinks of such nature were recovered by Police.”
In March 2020, the Parliament of Ghana passed into law the Narcotis Control Commission bill 2019 legalizing the growing to canabis for health use purposes.
The new law states that companies growing canabis for medicinal or health purposes require a license from the Ministry of Health but does not give a blanket license for growing canabis in the country.
Therefore, the abuse of canabis remains illegal in Ghana.
However, the Police is therefore advising the public to be sure of substances they patronise in order not to fall victim to such practices.
