Akuffo-Addo lifted lockdown for NPP primaries, EC & NIA registration – Suhuyini

The Member of Parliament for Tamale North, Alhaji Alhassan Suhuyini has said President Akuffo-Addo called off the partial lockdown in the Greater Accra, Greater Kumasi and Kasoa to make way for the NPP Presidential and Parliamentary primaries.

He stated he knew the President will do so before his address yesterday, Sunday, April 19, a decision the legislator believes would enable the EC and NIA to compile a new voter register for election 2020.

According to him, President Akuffo-Addo took the decision to lift the restriction of movements because “he’s a party first man. Unfortunately.”

I knew and discussed with some friends(witnesses here) that the eventual one week extension he announced was a middle ground between the hawks who wanted a lifting of the ban on movement purely on political grounds and the doves who care about the virus and public perception of the party handling of it.

When the president announced an extension last time, 9th April, I was surprised because my information pointed to a lifting of the ban on movement for his party presidential and parliamentary primaries.

To make it less obvious and offensive, the party craftily announced an indefinite suspension of the 25th April primaries. So that after the president lifts the ban like he has done, the party can pretend to meet this week to keep the 25th date or announce a new date around 25th. That’s how to deflect the reason for the lifting of the ban from the political consideration.
Of course the NIA and EC Registrations are the cherries on the cake.

Remember just last week when he announced the one week extension our confirmed cases were 378, today it’s 1042.
