Residents of Wungu in the North East Region can now breathe a sigh of relief following the construction of an ultra modern health centre in the town.
For the past years, the residents have been trekking several kilometres to Walewale, the West Mamprusi Municipal capital to access health care services due to the lack of health facility in the area.
To ameliorate the plight of the people, the Member of Parliament for Walewale Constituency, Dr Sagre Bambagi constructed a health centre in the community to bring health care delivery to the door steps of the people.
The facility which is solely funded by the MP, comprises of a maternity wards, dispensary, children, male and female wards among others.
The Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia who inaugurated the facility as part of his five day tour of the region said the government had made gaint strides in the development of health infrastructure for the past four years.
He said the project was part of government’s efforts of developing the health sector and providing the health needs of the citizenry.
“We have done alot for the past four years to develop the health sector such as the establishment of the Zipline drone services, construction of health facilities, one constituency one ambulance and many more.
When you vote massively for us to retain power we will do more to bring massive development to the area ” Dr Bawumia noted.
In his address, Dr Bambagi said the construction of the facility followed several appeals made to him by the people, adding that it would go a along way to promote health care delivery in the area.
The Paramount Chief of the Wungu Traditional Area, Wungnaaba Alhaji Sulemana Saaka commended the MP for the gesture and urge management of the centre to put it into goo use.
