A lady has died in a ghastly accident at Buipe, the capital of the Central Gonja District in the Savannah Region while another sustained serious injuries on Sunday, 14th June, 2020.
The lady identified as Hamdia who is believed to be in her late twenties and her friend were riding on a motor bike from the Lito Junction in Buipe when an articulator truck traveling from the Tamale highway towards Buipe township run over them.
According to an eyewitness, the driver of the truck beeped his horn behind the ladies to sound caution but they rather became confused and lost control of the motorbike.
The eyewitness said there were some parked vehicles in the bicycle lane which prevented the deceased and her friend from escaping danger.!
He narrated that the lady at the back of the motor bike jumped off and fell while the exhaust pipe of the motorbike got stuck to the back wheels of the truck before the rider’s head got smashed.
He added the deceased (Hamdia) died on the spot while her friend who survived the accident was rushed to the hospital for immediate medical attention.
However, eyewitnesses immediately thronged to the scene and covered the corpse with a piece of cloth and rushed the other victim was taken to the hospital and had to help direct the flood of traffic that was created around the scene of the accident.
However, the atmosphere of grief and mourning took a sudden turn when the driver of the truck who had escaped narrowly appeared in another truck and was harassed by some angry youth but he was not hurt.
The Central Gonja District Police Command were not also spared insults when they turned up at the accident scene late after residents had phoned them to report the accident.
The dead had been sent home for burial in accordance with Islamic teachings on Monday while the injured was transferred from the Buipe Health Centre to the Tamale Teaching Hospital for further treatment.
