The Gonjaland Youth for Peace and Development have called on Chiefs, Clergy and Opinion Leaders in the Savannah Region to advise former President John Dramani Mahama over his refusal to accept the results of the 2020 elections.
This comes after the NDC in the region held a demonstration in Buipe in the Central Gonja District on Tuesday in which they burned car types to register their disagreement with presidential results.
Mr Mahama and the NDC have also accused the Electoral Commission (EC) of manipulating the elections in favor of the ruling NPP after the Commission corrected the figures a couple of times after declaration on Thursday, 9th December 2020.
But the Gonjaland Youth for Peace and Developmen at at a peace on Thursday morning in Buipe under the theme; “Concede or Go To Court” called on the NDC to call off their nationalwide demotrations and seek redress at the law court.
The group pleaded with the Overload of the Gonja Kingdom, Yagbonwura Tutumba Boresa I to advise the former President to use the courts to seek redress and to call his party supporters to order.
“The Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, Yagbonwura Tuntunba Boresa should call one of his wayward sons to act and behave like a Gonja not like a rebel leader,” the group pleaded.
According to convenor of the group Mahafuzu Ibrahim Sapppor, “He Should be advised to resort to the use of appropriate, legal and proper means of litigating a dispute. He should immediately take advantage of the court sytem whilst the gates are opened”.
Mr Sappor noted these protests held by the NDC in some parts of the country have been characterized by chaos and destruction of public properties.
He added this is likely to bring tension in the country if not checked immediately.
