Covid-19: Foreign Affairs Minister slams Chinese authorities over ill-treatment of Ghanaians

The Minsiter for Foreign Affairs and Regional Intertegration, Madam Sheirley Ayorkor-Botchway has condemned reports of inhumane treatment of Ghananains national in China.

The Minsiter in a statement said “I regret and highly condemn this act of ill-treatment and racial discrimination.”

According to multiple reports, most African nationals including Ghananains are being forcefully ejected from homes and hotels into the streets due to the Covid-19 outbreak which was first recorded in the Wuhan in China.

Some experts say the actions by the Chinese authorities against African nationals is in violation of diplomatic protocols especially during this critical period of the Covid-19 pandemic across the world.

The Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Shi Ting Wang was also summoned by the Foreign Affairs Minsiter over the matter asked for his Government to immediate address the issue.

I have therefore summoned the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana Shi Ting Wang to register my disappointment and call for his Government to immediately address the situation and bring their Officials to order.

the statement added.

Madam Ayorkor-Botchway further stated an official communique will be announced within the next 24hrs to address the situation.
