The Electoral Commission (EC) has set June 30, 2020 as date for the commencement of the new voter ID registeration exercise ahead of the general elections on December 7.
This was contained in a letter signed by the Deputy Commissioner, Bossman Asare addressed to the Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
“This letter comes to inform you that the 2020 Voters Registration Exercise has been Scheduled to commence on Tuesday, the 30th of June, 2020,” the EC said.
According to the EC letter dated 8th June, “the registration will be held at all Registration Centres and District Ofices of the Electoral Cormmission throughout the country.”
The compilation of the new register is expected to take place within 40 days and end on 9th September 2020.
However, the EC will conduct the exercise without the existing voters’id card as requirement for registeration.
This comes after parliamentary gave the green light after a 106-92 majority vote on the floor of the house adopted the report of the committee on subsidiary legislation which approved the controversial CI.
