Exclusive: Joy News’ Manasseh Azure Awuni Resigns?

Renowned investigative journalist, Manasseh Azure Awuni, has reportedly resigned from the Multimedia Group, sources close to JoyNews have revealed to GhanaNewsOnline.com.gh.

The resignation of the multiple award winning investigative journalist follows an apology from the Multimedia Group to President Akufo-Addo and the Government over the controversial documentary titled ‘Militia in the heart of the nation’ which he worked on.

The investigative piece produced by Manasseh Azuri Awuni and aired on the JoyNews channel in March 2019 suggested that a militia group with links to President Akufo-Addo had been conducting its training and was operating from the former seat of government – the Osu Castle in Accra. The documentary was aired at a time the President was leading a crusade against political vigilantism in the country.

According to our sources, Manasseh Azure Awuni felt betrayed by the Multimedia Group for apologizing to President Nana Akufo-Addo when indeed, the station knew that most of the details in the documentary were factual. He is alleged to have cited several other exposé he did on other notable figures, including former President John Dramani Mahama, and even though the personalities disagreed with his findings, there was no apologies issued to them.

Our deep throat sources explained that Manasseh felt the station that he had spent several years of his journalism life working for had not been loyal to him in this situation, hence his decision to part ways with them.

“He submitted his resignation letter shortly after the Multimedia Group offered the apology to the President. Immediately after that, he started experiencing threats on his life. That is why he went on exile,” we were told.

It is unclear what is next for the young journalist but reliable sources say he might be heading to a popular media house near you.

Both Multimedia Group and Manasseh are yet to publicly comment on the resignation.
