Group backs Haruna Iddrisu’s call on EC not to declare “fraudulent” results

A group calling itself Founders Bench, believed to be affiliated with the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has thrown its weight behind the minority leader, Haruna Iddrissu on his call for the electoral commission to desist from acts that will plunge Ghana into caos following the 2020 elections results.

According to the association, which is identified as “Founders Bench”, the Tamale South legislator only spoke the minds of the “rank and file” of the party, and that they shall not accept any results that is “fraudulent” on December 7.

This was disclosed during a press conference by the association at the NDC Tamale Central constituency office, Tamale.

“…2020 general elections is just around the corner. Ghana over the years has distinguished itself as the beacon of democracy for holding credible, transprarent and peaceful elections that have seen governments swung. It is therefore imperative for all of us to strive to maintain and improve the feat achieved over the years”,

the Group said.

“It is in this light that we warn the electoral commission headed by Jean Mensah to desist from acts have the tendency of plunging this country into chaos”, it added.

According to the Group, a voters’ register that is credible is a “minimum requirement for the conduct of free and fair elections”, and to them, Jean Mensah’s attitude is a threat to a peaceful elections in 2020.

“A credible voters’ register is a minimum requirement for the conduct of free and fair elections. But the EC’s entrenched stance and demeanor on the compilation of the new voters’ register appears to be threatening the stability of Ghana even before 2020 elections are conducted”,

it indicated.

The members of the “Founders Bench” stated that until the minority leader commented on the new voters’ register brouhaha, former president Mahama and leaders of the Inter Party Resistance Against New Voters’Register had already made their stance on the matter clear.

“Our affable minority leader, Haruna Iddrissu earlier this month also warned that the NDC will not accept the outcome of fraudulent elections, adding that the party will simultaneously declare its results if EC dares to declare a rigged results”, the group warned.

“The minority leader only spoke the minds of the rank and file of the party. We as a group is battle ready to carry out any directive given by the leadership of the party to defend the sovereignty of the country”,

it further added.

It however indicated that the group is committed to peace and democracy, emphasizing that they don’t, and shall not accept any results that seeks to change the will of Ghanaians.
