The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has labelled the Special Initiatives Minister and MP for Awutu Senya East as a “Gangster” following her sporadic shooting at a register center at Kasoa in the Central Region.
According to the party, the Minister allegedly imported “thugs” from Bawku in the Upper East region to unleash mayhem on supporters of the NDC in the ongoing registration exercise in the constituency.
This comes after Madam Hawa Komson on Monday, July 20, 2020 admitted to firing warning shots “in self-defense” against unarmed registrants at the Step-to-Christ Poling Station in her constituency.
About three motorbikes belonging to members of the NDC were burnt while others were assaulted by heavily-built men alleged to be acting on the orders of the Minister.
But Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, Director of Elections for the NDC at a press briefing on Wednesday, July 22, 2020 condemned in so uncertain terms the actions of Madam Hawa Komson and subsequently called for her dismissal.
“Hawa Koomson has by this criminal act, and the several brazen brutalities she and her gang have meted to NDC supporters in the last couple of weeks, demonstrated that she is a gangster who doesn’t deserve to occupy any public position of trust.”
He continued “And, we join the many voices of conscience in our society to demand her immediate dismissal from office and prosecution for this heinous crime.”
Even though the matter is under investigation by the Central Regional Police Command, the NDC believes Madam Hawa Komson ought to have been arrested and prosecuted.
Mr Afrieye Ankrah also accused President Akufo-Addo of condoning lawlessness under his administration on the basis of which the Minister is still at post.
