Minority MP wants John Boadu dragged to Parliament for ‘insulting Speaker’

Minority National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Adaklu, Governs Kwame Agbodza, is pushing for the General Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, to be dragged before the Committee of Privileges.

The legislator wants John Boadu to appear before the committee for allegedly insulting the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin.

The NPP General Secretary reportedly took the Speaker to the cleaners when he addressed party members at Mankesim in the Central Region.

One news portal quoted Mr Boadu as making the following comments:

“The Speaker talks anyhow, now he even says he can remove the president but the president cannot remove him. He has forgotten that even if the president will be impeached he as a Speaker doesn’t have a vote but he is just boasting.

“I don’t know what is wrong with him, he has [inferiority] complex, he is overwhelmed by his current status so sometimes he says things that do not make sense but we have to indulge him.”

He made the remarks following concerns raised by the Speaker about poor budgetary allocation to the legislature.

But commenting on the matter on the floor of Parliament on Thursday, November 25, 2021, the NDC MP said the comments were unfortunate.

He said Mr Boadu must be dragged before the Committee over a possible offence of contempt of Parliament.
