The National Council for Curriculum Assessment (NaCCA) has introduced the first batch of recommended textbooks for teaching from between the kindergarten and basic six (6) level amid the closure of schools due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The NaCCA, acting on behalf of the Minsitry of Education made the announcement on Thursday, May 14, 2020 at a short ceremony in Accra.
The new textbooks were printed due to the introduction of new curriculum for the KG and basic level in September 2019.
Acting Executive Director of NaCCA, Prince Hamid Armah (PhD) said “These textbooks have gone through series of reviews between NaCCA and the Publishers to ensure they conform to the expectations of the new KGi-Basic 6 curriculum introduced in September, 2019.”
Dr. Armah added NaCCA welcomes comments and feedbacks from school mangers, teachers, parents and the general public on the recommended textbooks.
This will help textbook writers and publishers improve on the quality of their textbooks.he stated.
President Akuffo-Addo in a televised address on 15th March announced the closure of schools through an Executive Instrument (EI) to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
Date for reopening is yet to be determined as goverment extended restrictions on public gathering until 31st May, 2020.
