NADMO neglects over 500 victims of rainstorm disaster at Chamba

Over five hundred households at Chamba in the Nanumba North District of the Northern Region have been left to their faith by the National Disaster and Management Organization (NADMO).

A total of 548 houses were destroyed rendering many homeless following a rainstorm that occurred on Tuesday, 16th February, 2021.

Several schools in the district had their roofs and other learning materials badly damaged by the rainstorm.

The incident led to the closure of six (6) schools as students attend classes under trees whiles other stay at home.

According to information gathered, the Member of Parliament Bimbila, Dominic Nitiwul visited the affected communities to ascertain the extent of damage caused.

He later supported the affected victims with 3,500 roofing sheets.

Mr Nitiwul who doubles as Minister for Defense was accompanied by the Director General of NADMO, Eric Nana Agyemang-Prempeh.

However, Mr Agyemang-Prempeh at the time assured that victims of the disaster will receive relief items from NADMO in a weeks time to no avail.

But residents of the communities during a visit lamented that almost month after the tragic incident destroyed their homes and properties, they are yet to receive relief items the organization.

According to them, they are unable to tell the reason for the delay and no official of the assembly (NADMO secretariat) has visited ever since the incident.

Meanwhile, Mr Abdulai Yacoub, District Chief Executive (DCE) fir Nanumba North reiterated that NADMO will soon provide the relief items to the affected communities.
