The largest opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) have suspended with immediate effective Chairman of the party in the Mion Constituency in the Northern Region for three (3) months.
Alhaji Abdulai Zakaria was directed to step aside from his role for misconduct in the December 2020 polls.
He has been accused of campaigning for the NPP parliamentary candidate Abdul-Aziz Ayaaba who won the seat from the NDC for the first time in the constituency.
A statement signed by the Northern Regional Chairman Alhaji Ibrahim Mobila said the decision was arrived after a Regional Functional Executive Committee meeting held on Saturday, 20th March, 2021.
According to Alhaji Mobila, a petition was brought to the party by Abdulai Mohammed and one hundred and one (111) registered members of the party in the Mion Constituency.
The petition accompanied by an audio recording cited the embattled chairman for breaching the NDC’s disciplinary code.
Alhaji Mobila further added after a careful review of the petition and evidence attached, the decision to suspend Alhaji Abdulai was in accordance with article 46(1), 46(6) and 46(8) of the party’s constitution.
However, the matter has been forwarded to the regional disciplinary committee of the party for further action.
