The National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP) under the Ministry of Business Development has disbursed a sum of Eight Hundred and Eighty Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢880,000) to entrepreneurs in the five Northern Regions under the Presidential Business Support Programme.
The second edition of support to applicants was held in the Northern Regional capital of Tamale Tuesday, 27th November, 2019.
The Presidential Business Support initiative is aimed at supporting entrepreneurs, start ups and and already existing businesses to flourish in their areas of operations and to curb the high rate of unemployment in the country.
Chief Executive of the NEIP, Lawyer John Kumah explained the initiative is one of the policies to end unemployment captured in the NPP’s 2016 manifesto.
According to him, the amount ranges from GH¢10,000 to GH¢100,000 will be going to the beneficiaries depending on their business proposals.
“Northern Ghana has been hailed for the Swift recovery of last year’s grant and Northern Region having the highest recovery while Upper West recorded the least, and this has gone a long way to affect the number of beneficiaries selected from the Region as well as the amount each beneficiary had.”Lawyer John Kumah explained.
The first window was in 2018 where 7,000 applications were received and up to 1,050 were selected to receive the necessary funding from government.
This year had 12,000 applying and up to 3,000 selected to benefit.
