Mr Baba Daney, an aspiring parliamentary candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Yendi constituency has commissioned a private radio station, Dasuma FM 99.1FM in the municipality.
The station is set to begin live transmission in the second week of July, www.tamaleonline.net is reliably informed.
The facility is situated in the same building at the Yendi post office and its primary objective is to churn out information to members of the communities and its surrounding areas.
It is also aimed at promoting and projecting the rich culture of Dagbon Kingdom through the medium.
Yendi, the traditional seat of Dagbon Kingdom has for over a decade been without a media house.
This was as a result of the Dagbon chieftaincy dispute that ensued in 2002.
This development is as a result of the successful performance of the funerals of the late Yaa Naa Mahamudu Abdulai IV and Yaa Naa Yakubu Andani II and the subsequent enskinment of Yaa Naa Abubakari Mahama II as Overlord of Dagbon at the Gbewaa Palace in January this year.
Mr Baba Daney, a Chattered Accountant, earlier paid a curtesy call on Yaa Naa Abubakari Mahama to officially inform him about the commencement of operation of the radio station.
According to him, Dasuma FM is a commercial entity and is therefore opened to the general public irrespective of ones social and political affiliation.
On his part, Nyeb Ya Naa praised the visionary thoughts of Mr Daney and commended him for his efforts.
He advised the station be managed well with professionalism for the benefit of the community and Dagbon as a whole.
The NPP earlier in the week announced it would hold two separate elections to elect/select parliamentary candidates for the 2020 elections starting in September this year and the second later in 2020.
Mr Baba Daney is widely touted as a “Local Boy” (Home Boy) widely tipped to win the contest in Yendi.
However, he coming against tough contenders like Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama and Hajia Abibata Mahama Shanni Zakariah who are also capable of winning the primaries.
