Information reaching TamaleOnline News indicates that the governing NPP in the Northern Region ahead of its September parliamentary primaries have endorsed a former Independent Member of Parliament, Alhassan Dramani as its parliamentary candidate for the 2020 elections.

The Party believes Mr Alhassan Dramani is the best candidate to beat the incumbent MP and former Broadcast Journalist Alhaji Alhassan Suhuyini.

Mr Dramani was accompanied by a mammoth crowd of supporters of and some senior officials of the NPP to file his nomination forms at the constituency office.

According to sources within the regional secretariat of the party, measures have been put in place to ensure Mr. Alhassan Dramani is passed by the vetting committee.

“The Party has endorsed him is working behind the scenes and talking to delegates in the constituency to elect Alhassan Dramani as parliamentary candidate” the source revealed.

It also added that, “the party also believes that he has what it take to beat [Hon] Suhuyini because he was with them [NDC] before he became an independent candidate in two elections.”

The source continued “Alhassan Dramani is an experienced politician and is capable of pulling a huge number of the NDC members to vote for him in the 2020 elections.”

Alhassan Dahamani prior to the 2012 general elections aspired as parliamentary candidate on the ticket of the then governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) but was disqualified ahead of the constituency primary over unknown reasons.

Subsequently, he entered the race as an independent candidate and beat the incumbent Alhaji Abukari Sumani, who had served the people for the past 12 years.

He lost the seat in 2016 to broadcast journalist, Alhaji Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini who is now the MP for Tamale North and is seeking a reelection after going through the parliamentary vetting of the NDC.
