NPP Primaries: Savelugu MP goes unopposed as contender fails to submit forms

The incumbent Member of Parliament for the Savelugu Constituency in the Northern Region, Alhaji Muhammed Abdul-Samed Gunu is going uncontested in the New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary primaries on April 25, 2020.

This comes after the only contender, Alhaji Nashiru, has failed to submit his nomination forms to the party before close of nomination Thursday, 20th February, 2020.

According to information gathered, Alhaji Nashiru paid a sum of two thousand Cedis (¢2,000.00) for the nomination forms to the party at the constituency office in Savelugu with the intention to contest the incumbent MP.

It is unclear reasons why he “refused” to submit his forms but TamaleOnline News has also been informed that efforts to reach Mr. Nashiru and aide, Abdullah Abass by Chairman of the constituency, Mr. Abdulai Koong have gone answered.

Alhaji Nashiru, TamaleOnline News has learnt has not officially communicated to the party his reasons or intentions not to partake in the primaries.

However, Alhaji Samed Gunu is seeking re-election after winning the seat for the NPP for the first time in the 2016 general elections.

The legislator, last Thursday, 13th February, 2020 filled his nomination forms and has urged the theming supporters of the party to renew his mandate and that of President Akuffo-Addo to continue to do more.

The MP when contacted indicated to TamaleOnline News that “for the lack of opposition to my bid is a massive vote of confidence for my 3 years in office.”

He reiterated his commitment to continue the development of the Savelugu Constituency.
