The Savannah Regional branch of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) have accused the regional executives of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) of peddling falsehood in the matter involving the arrest of some persons with guns and ammunitions.
The party denied bussing those armed men (about 15) in to the regional capital, Damongo to cause mayhem in the ongoing voter registration exercise.
The NPP Regional Communications Officer, Mohammed Issah in statement alleged that the suspects who were arrested with AK 47 and other dangerous weapons in the Damongo constituency were members of the NDC’s vigilante group.
He intimated that the suspects were NDC supporters from Bole District known for unleashing mayhem.
“Two well-known NDC vigilante were arrested after their colleagues escaped the arrest. The 2 are currently at the Damango District Police Headquarters,” excepts of Mr Issah’s statement read.
But Mr Malik Basintale, the NDC’s Regional Communications Officer in a rejoinder described the statement from the NPP as “shameful, barbaric and disastrous fabrications” deliberately to drag the NDC into the gutters.
According to him, the NPP failed to prove reasons for the arrest and the harm or damages caused by the suspects.
He warned that these “wild and evil lies” by Regional Executives of the governing NPP could plunge the region into serious tension.
“Such fake stories are capable of causing serious tensions in the region and we call on the security services, particularly the police to as a matter of urgency invite whoever is behind this false accusation for strict interrogation and hence be used as a scapegoat to deter others who may engage in such despicable acts in the near future.”Malik Basintale stated.
