Pressure Group, OccupyGhana has condemned the violence that ensued at the Step to Christ registration centre on Monday, 20th July in the Awutu Senya East constituency of the Central Region.
The Group is also demandind for investigations into the shooting incident by Special Initiative Minister, Mavis Hawa Komson which destructed the process.
The Minister who doubles as MP of the area admitted to firing gun shots to scare persons she claims were non-residents of the area and bussed to the centre to register.
According to reports, three motorbikes were burnt while four persons have been detained at the Regional Police Command and processed for Court.
However, OccupyGhana in a statement copied TamaleOnline News condemned the Madam Hawa Komson for carrying loaded weapon to the registration centre.
“We condemn all election-related violence. We also condemn the inexplicable circumstances under which the Minister took a loaded weapon to the registration centre in the first place, when the Minister has police guard, paid for by the state and whose job is to protect her,”the statement said.
OccupyGhana has also called on the Police to quickly investigate the circumstances under which the incident occurred.
It also noted that the Minister should be prosecuted of found guilty of any wrongdoing.
“We call on the police to quickly investigate the circumstances under which this incident occurred. If it is found that the Minister breached the law, she should be prosecuted to the fullest extent possible under the law.”OccupGhana added.
Meanwhile, information gathered by TamaleOnline News indicates that the Central Regional Police Command has officially written to the Speaker of Parliament, Prof Aeron Mike-Ocque for the Minister to assist their investigation.
