Nigeria has announced 14 days lockdown of its major cities, Abuja and Lagos to contain the spread of the Covid-19 virus.
The West African nation has recorded a total of 111 confirmed cases of the virus within the affected cities.
President Mahamudu Buhari in a national address Sunday announced the lockdown will take effect 11pm Monday, 30th March, 2020.
He also announced a ban on economic activities including social gathering and extended to Ogun State and its environs.
President Buhari stated “l am directing the cessation of al movements in Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, for an initlal perlod of 14 days with effect from 11 p.m. [20006MT] on Monday, 30th March, 2020.”
“This restrlction will also apply to Ogun State due to Its close proximity to Lagos and heavy traffic between the two states,”he added.
