RTU declared winners of cross-protest against BA United

The GFA Disciplinary Committee has declared Real Tamale United (RTU) as winners of the Division One League Matchday 27 game between BA United and RTU at the Sunyani Coronation Park.

This comes after both teams filed a protest against each other over acts of hooliganism that resulted in the abrupt end of the game before normal time.

On 5th July, 2021, fans of BA United in a viral video were captured as they chased and beat up referee Maxwell Hanson for awarding a penalty to RTU.

The GFA Disciplinary Committee after reviewing both protest, official match reports and video evidence dismissed the Protest by BA United and declared RTU winners of the Protest.

The Committee in its verdict on Thursday, 22nd July, 2021 said “That for Brong Ahafo United FC initiating the acts responsible for causing the abrupt end of the match, Brong Ahafo United FC shall forfeit the match in accordance with Article 33(1)(b) of the Division One League Regulations.”

It added “That in addition, being the defaulting club, Brong Ahafo United FC shall lose three (3) points from the club’s accumulated points from their previous matches pursuant to Article 33(5)(a) of the Division One League Regulations.”

However, BA United has also been fine a sum of Two Thousand Five Hundred Cedis (GHS2,5000), 50 per cent of which payable to RTU including an amount of Five Hundred Cedis (GHS500) as transportation fare.
