Sammy Gyamfi responds to ‘attacks’ of using George Floyd’s death for political gimmick

National Communications Officer of the largest opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi came under massive attack on social media for allegedly using George Floyd’s murder by Minneapolis Police officer to score political points.

The NDC firebrand shared on his Twitter handle, a cartooned flyer to portray how the President and Electoral Commissioner, Jane Mensa are soffocating Ghanaians with the compilation of the new voters’register.

Some members and sympathizer of the ruling NPP including political watchers have described Sammy Gyamfi’s post as “disgusting, shameful and Childish” propaganda for political gains.

However, Sammy Gyamfi in a quick response on his Facebook timeline said the art work is not in anyway a mockery of George Floyd’s murder nor to exploit same for political points.

According to him, there is nothing wrong with sharing a cartoon work describing the painful scheme of the EC to disenfranchise Ghanaians.

“Nothing wrong with sharing a cartoon which draws a parallel between the painful xenophobic murder of George Floyd, and the evil attempt by the GH EC to disenfranchise millions of eligible voters through a xenophobic voter register.‬”

This cartoon doesn’t mock the painful xenophobic murder of George Floyd or seek to exploit same for political capital in any way.

Floyd was choked to death, while screaming for breathe.

In GH today, the Jean Mensah-led EC is seeking to disenfranchise millions of eligible voters through a xenophobic voter register. The potential victims of this grave injustice, are screaming for breathe. They are screaming for their inalienable right to vote.

Nothing wrong with sharing a cartoon which draws a parallel between the painful xenophobic murder of George Floyd, and the evil attempt by the GH EC to disenfranchise millions of eligible voters through a xenophobic voter register.‬

Injustice anywhere, is a threat to justice everywhere. This is a serious matter, not a joke.
