NHIA Manager suspended over rape, sexual assault allegations

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) District Manager for the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District has been asked to set aside following accusations of attempted rape and sexual assualt.

This comes after Mrs Doreen Smith, a nurse at the Soma CHPS Compound petitioned the NHIA to investigate Mr Sakara for alleged sexual assault incident on 8th July when Mr Sakara visited for monitoring.

According to her, Mr Sakara engaged her in struggle and in the process inserted his finger into her vagina after she refused his sexual advances.

However, the The National Health Issuance Authority (NHIA) in a statement copied tamaleonline.net said Mr Sakara (the accused) has been queried and subsequently suspended for investigations into the matter.

“The District Manager has been issued a query and his response has been received. There is also an on-going investigation by the Police service and further actions will be taken as the facts of the case unfold. In the meantime the
District Manager has been asked to step aside,” the statement said.

However, the NHIA has condemned all act of sexual abuse and gender base violence in society especially against women.

It further indicated the Authority does not condone such acts which is enshrined in its code of ethics.

“The NHIA strongly condemns all incidents of sexual harassment, sexual assault and gender-based violence in our society. The code of ethics enshrined in our conditions of service abhors such behaviour. The organisation will continue to champion the cause of individuals’ rights and liberties to live and work without interference especially women,” the statement concluded.
