President of Ghana, Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo has asked Ghanaians to make significant contributions towards the growth and development of the country.
The President made these remarks in a speech at the 64th Independence Anniversary Celebration held at the forecourt of the Jubilee House, the seat of government due to the Covid-19 epidemic.
“We must all step up and play significant roles in the development of Ghana, our motherland. Let us bequeath to our children, their children, and generations unborn a nation of hope and opportunity, not one of despair and retrogression,” President Akufo-Addo urged.
Ghana was declared an independent nation on the eve of 6th Match, 1957 from the British colonial rule.
President Akufo-Addo in his address recalled how Ghana became the first African nation to gain independence from the shackles of colonialism and imperialism.
He also paid tribute to the fallen heroes in the struggle for independence from the British colonial masters.
The event was attended by former President John Agyekum Kuffour, Ministers of State, Members of Council of State, Head of Diplomatic Missions in Ghana amongst others.
