Tamale: 3 Hotels, 7 landlords sued over illegal connection

Some hotels and landlords in Tamale have been arraigned before the Tamale Magistrate Court for allegedly stealing power through “illegal connections”.

The Northern Electricity Department Company (NEDCo) sued Boabab Guest House, Galaxy Hotel and Mole Guest House for power theft.

Others including seven (7) landlords in the Tamale Metropolis have also been sued by NEDCo in connection with similar offense.

The hearing was adjourned after Galaxy Hotel and Mole Guest House failed to show up in court.

However, the Court presided over by Justice Amadu Issifu issued a branch warrant for the managers of the three (3) hoteliers to be hauled before the court.

Public Relations Officer of NEDCo, Alhassan Abaaba said the company resorted the legal action to serve as a deterrent to others.

According to him, NEDCo since March 2020 has been pursuing the case to retrieve about Fifty Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢50,000) from the accused businesses.

He explained that the activities of power theft has largely affected the company’s revenue generation.

Meanwhile, Mr Abaaba urged the public to assist NEDCo to nabb companies/businesses and households involved in the illegal act.
