Residents of Gukpegu-Tua near Vittin in the Tamale Metropolis are experiencing acute water shortage as their only source of water is fast drying up.
Mechanized boreholes at Tamale Post Office has also dried up making water supply by tractor operators to deprived communities stall.
A visit to the farming community on the occasion of World Water Day saw women and children fetching from the almost empty dam.
The situation is very common in other communities in the Northern Region.
According to residents, the dam is drying up due to no rainfall and there is no other alternative available.
“It is dirty and can only be used if they add alum for the mud to settle down,” Mohammed Ibrahim reported.
They added it the same brownish water used for cooking, bathing and other household use.
However, residents say the newly commissioned borehole constructed by Kasapreko Ghana Limited is not enough for the community.
They are therefore appealing to Minority Leader and MP for the area, Lawyer Haruna Iddrisu to assist them with more boreholes and pipe borne water.
