The Managing Direct of the Tema Oil Refinery, Asante Berko has resigned over bribery by the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
Mr. Berko was accused by the US SEC of breaching the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, FCPA and issued a criminal proceedings against him.
According to international and local news report, the US SEC said the former TOR MD bribed goverment officials and members of parliament in the erstwhile Mahama NDC administration to enable Ghana a Turkish IPP to secure a Power Purchase Agreement.
A statement signed by Eugene Arhin, Director of Communications at the Jubilee House said President Akuffo-Addo has accepted Mr. resignation and has notified the Board of Directors of the this development.
“The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has, on Wednesday, 15th April, 2020, received the resignation from office of Mr. Asante Berko as Managing Director of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR). This was after he Submitted his resignation letter, dated 15″ April 2020, to the President,” the statement said.
It added “President Akufo-Addo has accepted Mr. Asante Berko’s resignation, and duly
notified the Board of Directors of TOR of this development. The President wished him well in his future endeavours”
