Chief of Tolon Traditional Area, Naa Major Sulemana Abubakari has cautioned health workers and the general public against stealing of drugs meant for patients and other equipment at the district ultramodern Tolon District Hospital.
The revered Chief sounded the warning after a tour of the hospital and to officially handover to the Northern Regional Health Directorate to begin operations.
Speaking through his representative, Tali Naa Abdulai Yakubu said “I want to warn (as representative of Tolon Naa) that we will not sit down and allow some bad workers to divert drugs being supplied to the hospital to different place.”
“Because it has been going on for long a time at various places. And we want to caution the health workers and the people of Tolon to cooperate with us to make sure the hospital works to achieve results”, he added.
However, the Northern Regional Director of Ghana Health Service, Dr. John B. Eleeza indicated that he was glad to observe the seriousness with which the people are eager to ensure the facility is put to use, adding that the people in the area should not take the law into their hands by beating health workers, when there is a problem.
According to him, this has been happening elsewhere, and his office will not allow it to happen to affect the delivery of quality healthcare at the Tolon district hospital.
The Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia commissioned the hospital on the last day of his three-day tour of the Northern Region in November last year.
The 60-bed Ultra-Modern Hospital for the Tolon District is one of the six medical facilities which begun three (3) years ago.Until today, the facility remained under lock since the commissioning in 2020.
And there have been calls from different angles on the vice president and the NPP to hand it over to be utilized.
