The opposition National Democratic Congress says it has plans to stage massive picketing at Electoral Commission (EC) offices across the country.
The exercise forms part of the party’s protest to halt the EC’s decision to compile a new voters’ register for the December 2020 polls.
The NDC had earlier joined the Inter-Party Resistance Against New Voters’Register to demostrate against the EC’s decision to compile a new biometric register in Tamale and Kumasi respectively.
According to the Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, Peter Boamah Otukonor, his outfit will stage a massive picket at the offices of the Electoral Commission (EC) across the Country.
“we will go to every EC in the country and sit on the floor from morning till evening in which we will carry placards that will carry our message to ensure the move to conduct a new voter’s register is halted,”Mr. Otukonor told Kwame Tutu on Accra based Kingdom FM.
The NDC argues the current register is credible and fit for the 2020 elections indicating the same register was used to elect President Akuffo-Addo in 2016, the referendum for the creation of six (6) additional regions and the recently held District Level elections in December 2029.
It added claims by the EC to change the current register are unconvincing and has, thus, vowed to vehemently oppose to the new voters’ register by all means available to the party.
However, the has confirmed it will go ahead to compile of new voters’ register for the 2020 elections beginning April 18, 2020.
