Voters’ Register Saga: We are fighting for transparency in our elections – NDC Nat’l Chairman

National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu Ampofo says the party’s resistance against the EC’s decision to compile a new biometric voters’ register is to preserve integrity and transpirancy in election in Ghana.

Mr. Ofosu Ampofo was addressing party supporters at a mammoth Inter-Party Resistance Against New Voters’ Register demostration (Tikusagi Demostration) in Tamale over the weekend.

“This is a just course that we are fighting. We are fighting for transpirancy in our elections. We are fighting to save the purse of this country.”

He stated.

According to him, the current register is credible to hold the forthcoming elections since the same register was used for the referendum in creating six additional regions and the recently held district level elections in December 2019.

The former Director of Elections for the NDC added the amount is Electoral Commission is using register is outrageous.

He added the demostration was also to protect the public purse and accused government and the EC of plans to manipulate the 2020 elections.

“We cannot use over 4.4 trillion Cedis to [compile] a [new] register. We have over 18m people whose data has already been capture and whatever the Electoral Commission wants to do with that data to enhance our electoral process do not need a new registration. And therefore, we say “Tikusagi”.”

He concluded.
