VRA closes Akosombo markets to stop Covid-19 spread

The Akosombo Management Committee, a subsidiary of the Volta River Authority (VRA) in the Eastern region have closed down the Akosombo and New-Combine markets effective Monday, 13th April to stem the spread of the Novel Coronavirus untill further notice.

The Committee said the was necessary following the outbreak of the dreaded disease in Lower Manya Krobo municipality with over 30 cases being recorded.

32 fresh cases of the Covid-19 virus out the current total of 566 were reordered in the Lower Manya Krobo municipality and Fanteakwa district in the Eastern region.

A communique signed by Mrs. Vivian Yebuah, Manager of the Akosombo Management Committee said “We wish to advise that the Akosombo and New-combine markets would be closed effective Monday April 13, 2020 until further notice.”

According to her, “this is to prevent the influx of traders from the surrounding markets which have been closed.”

Mrs. Yebuah urged residents to make all their necessary arrangements to stock up food items and other necessities they might and also reiterated that they should all adhere to the directives.
