Son of late former Vice president of Ghana, Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama is hopeful of representing the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) on the ballot paper as parliamentary candidate for the Yendi constituency in the 2020 elections.
Ahead of the party’s primaries, Alhaji Farouk, has undertaken series of projects in the area, including the supply of free agricultural inputs to farmers under his Partnership for Poverty Reduction (PPR), a non-governmental organization.
As part of his agenda for the constituency, Mr Farouk, who is currently the Deputy Procurement Manager at Ghana Cocoa Board intends to make Yendi the bread basket of the nation, and also has plans of projecting the untapped economic potentials of Yendi globally to attract investments to the community.
He, thus, believes he has what it takes to bring economic fortunes that will benefit the people in the area if given the nod during the parliamentary elections anytime soon.
To ensure this plans and aspirations comes to light, Farouk Aliu Mahama is appealing to delegates to choose him among other candidates vying for position for the 2020 elections.
He is also urging the people not to depend on government to provide everything but plans to bring creative minds together that will deliver a dawn of development and progress to the people.
“I need your vote to win so we will invest in Yendi Economic Development Programs. We cannot rely on Ghana government for everything. We want to bring creative minds to Yendi.”He stated in a Facebook post sighted by TamaleOnline News.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is yet announce the timetable for its internal parliamentary primaries to elect new candidates for the 2020 elections.
However, the Yendi seat is arguably noted for the NPP (even though the NDC has won it twice, (1st & 5th parliament)).
The race of who leads the party in the 2020 elections is keenly contested by a Deputy CEO of MASLOC, Hajia Abibata Shanni Zakariah, Mr. Baba Danney, a Chartered Accountant and Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama, Deputy Procurement Manager at the Ghana Cocoa Board.
Meanwhile, the intention of the incumbent MP and Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister, Alhaji Habib Tijani is not officially known.
