The Gbewa Palace under the auspices of King and Overlord of Dagbon Kingdom, Yaa-Naa Abukari II has taken steps to address the perennial water crises faced in the Yendi municipality.
Residents of the municipality have been battle water shortage due to the inability of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) to pump water from the Dakar River.
The situation is affecting daily lives of the people and businesses as they spend more to buy from water tanker operators.
However, on Tuesday, 6th April, Yaa-Naa and Elders of the Gbewaa Palace accompanied by MCE of Yendi visited the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) Treatment Plant at the Dakar River.
The visit was to enable the Yaa-Naa establish first hand information about the challenges affecting water supply to the Yendi township and its environs.
Officials of the GWCL explained efforts are already in place to fix the water supply challenges.
They added dredging machines are being used to dredge the river (Kulkpini) to source portal drinking water for residents of Yendi.
Yaa-Naa Abukari II commended the GWCL officials for their efforts to address the water crisis and the provision of emergency water supply to residents.
However, Sagani TV’s Saulihu Salifu reported the Gbewaa Palace have contracted the services of Engineers working on the Eastern Corridor road to help dredge the river.
According to him, the PRO of Gbewaa Palace, Yakubu Musah confirmed the company has agreed and have moved in to conduct a survey.
